It either just stops responding completely or crashes with the message "iTunes has stopped working". I itunse uninstalled, restarted and reinstalled Itunes, still no luck.

Thank you for your suggestions. I only use Apple products for this reasonbut am trying to get my parents computer set up with iTunes. Should I have any serious problems with iTunes on Windows in the future--now that I have the final version of Windows your very reasonable suggestions may well fix the issue.
